The Piano Guys is an American musical group consisting of pianist Jon Schmidt, cellist Steven Sharp Nelson, videographer Paul Anderson, and music producer Al van der Beek. It all started when Paul Anderson, the owner of a piano shop, welcomed Jon Schmidt into his store to practice for an upcoming show. The two musicians connected and formed what is now known as "The Piano Guys".They gained popularity through YouTube, where in 2010 they began posting piano and cello compositions combining classical, contemporary, and rock and roll music. In December 2011, they joined Sony Masterworks and released their debut album The Piano Guys. Schmidt and Nelson's signature style is creating medleys of well-known songs that incorporate classical themes and made music videos.
The group's YouTube channel had over 2 billion views as of March 2020, and it had 6.7 million subscribers. The Piano Guys, The Piano Guys 2, A Family Christmas, Wonders, Uncharted, Christmas Together, Limitless, and 10 were their first eight major-label studio albums, and all of them debuted at the top of the Billboard charts for classical albums or new age albums.
