About Tchaikovsky

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic period. Born in Votkinsk, he exhibited his musical talent at an early age. He studied privately with several music teachers in Saint Petersburg and Moscow.

In 1868, Tchaikovsky became a professor of harmony at the Moscow Conservatory. His compositions brought him international fame and he was invited to perform in many countries throughout Europe. However, Tchaikovsky's homosexuality caused him great distress. He married Antonina Miliukova in 1877, but the marriage was not happy and ended in divorce.

Tchaikovsky continued to compose despite his personal troubles. His most popular works include Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty. He also wrote the 1812 Overture, one of the most popular pieces of classical music. Tchaikovsky died at the age of 53, probably from cholera.

Tchaikovsky's music is characterized by its melodic themes, lush orchestrations, and emotional intensity. He is considered one of the great masters of Russian music.
