The Pensacola Children's Chorus (PCC) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1994. The organization was established by Susan and Allen Pote as a way to bring together the youth of the Pensacola area and provide them with an opportunity to perform in a professional setting. Since then, the chorus has grown to include over 300 singers from ages 8-18, representing more than 30 schools and churches from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. The PCC has performed at various events including National Anthem performances, holiday concerts, and community outreach programs. They have also collaborated with numerous local organizations such as the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Pensacola. Over the years, they have won multiple awards for their performances including several from the Florida Choral Directors Association (FCDA). In addition to performing locally, they have also traveled nationally and internationally for competitions and festivals. The chorus is led by Artistic Director Dr. Anna Sjoerdsma who has been part of the PCC family since 2015.
Under her guidance, the chorus has continued to grow in size and skill level while maintaining its core values of excellence, respect, collaboration, and service to others. The PCC also offers numerous educational opportunities for its members including masterclasses with renowned artists such as Grammy Award winner John Rutter. In 2021, the Pensacola Children’s Chorus released their first full-length album titled “Voices of Joy” which featured songs from their repertoire such as “Siyahamba” and “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” as well as original compositions written by members of the chorus. This album was met with great success both critically and commercially as it reached number one on iTunes’ Classical Chart within 24 hours of its release! The PCC will be celebrating its 27th anniversary in 2022 with several special events planned throughout the year including a tour across Florida in 2023! During this tour, they will be performing some of their favorite pieces from their repertoire along with some new ones that are sure to delight audiences everywhere! They will also be releasing a new EP later this year featuring some of their most popular songs from Voices Of Joy plus brand new music written by members of the chorus.
