The National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) is a Canadian orchestra based in Ottawa, Ontario. Founded in 1969 by conductor Mario Bernardi, the NAC Orchestra has become one of the leading orchestras in Canada and around the world. With over 50 musicians from across Canada and beyond, they have released numerous albums and toured extensively. The NAC Orchestra has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and Sydney Opera House. The NAC Orchestra's repertoire encompasses a wide range of classical music from Baroque to contemporary works. Their recordings include works by Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and many more. They have also collaborated with renowned composers such as John Adams and Rufus Wainwright who wrote special pieces for them to perform. During the 2021-2022 season, the NAC Orchestra performed in several concerts including Vivaldi’s Four Seasons featured guest violinist Augustin Hadelich; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 conducted by Alexander Shelley; Mozart’s Requiem conducted by Johannes Debus; Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture conducted by Alexander Shelley; Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 featured guest pianist Jan Lisiecki; Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 conducted by Jonathan Darlington; Bach’s Mass In B Minor conducted by Johannes Debus; Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé Suite No 2 conducted by Nicholas Collon; Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with guest violinist James Ehnes; Shostakovich's Symphony No 5 conducted by Alexander Shelley; Saint-Saëns' Organ Symphony with guest organist Olivier Latry; Strauss' Ein Heldenleben with guest conductor Peter Oundjian and much more! In 2023, the NAC Orchestra will embark on an international tour that includes stops in Europe, Asia, and North America.
