Mathieu Dufour is a French flutist who was the principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic. Dufour was born in Paris, France. His father is a well-known clarinetist, and his mother is a pianist. Dufour began playing the flute at age six. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with Pierre-Yves Artaud and Alain Marion. He also studied with Marcel Moyse at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Dufour has won several competitions, including first prize at the International Flute Competition in Geneva, Switzerland and the Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition in Odense, Denmark. He has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classical, and Decca Records. He has performed as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Dufour is a member of the faculty at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, Germany.
