Born in Calgary, Alberta in 1995, Jan began playing the piano at the age of five and by the time he was nine years old, he had already made his debut with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. He has since gone on to become one of Canada's most celebrated young musicians, performing with some of the world's leading orchestras and collaborating with renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle and Gustavo Dudamel. Throughout his career, Jan has released several critically acclaimed albums, including his first solo album Chopin: The Complete Études (2012), which earned him two Juno Award nominations. His second album was Schubert: Impromptus & Moments Musicaux (2014) which was also nominated for a Juno Award. In 2016, Jan released Debussy: Préludes I & II (2016), which garnered him both critical acclaim and commercial success. Most recently, Jan released Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos 17 & 24 (2018), which received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. In addition to his musical achievements, Jan has won numerous awards throughout his career including being named “Classical Artist of the Year” at the 2018 Western Canadian Music Awards and receiving an honorary doctorate from Mount Royal University in 2019. In 2020, Jan was appointed as an Officer of The Order Of Canada for “his technical excellence as a pianist and for inspiring audiences across Canada and around the world”.
