This event, which the adored Music Director Robert Shaw started many years ago, has grown to become a tradition for Atlanta families over the holiday season. To commemorate the holiday season, the Orchestra, Chorus, and special guests—including tenor Timothy Miller and the Gwinnett Young Singers—will sing well-known Christmas tunes and hymns. The audience will also have the chance to join in on some of their favorite holiday songs.
Norman Mackenzie has achieved international acclaim for his talents as a musical collaborator, conductor, and concert organist. He was selected to assist in continuing the artistic vision of the renowned founding conductor Robert Shaw in his role as Director of Chorus for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) since 2000 and occupant of its endowed Frannie and Bill Graves Chair.
He works closely with Robert Spano on the commissioning and realization of new choral-orchestral works at the ASO, sets the Choruses up for all performances and recordings, and leads holiday concerts. In addition to his role as director of music and fine arts at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Mr. Mackenzie maintains a busy recital and guest conducting schedule. He worked with Mr. Shaw for 14 years, serving as the ASO's keyboardist, the ASO Choruses' primary accompanist, and finally the assistant choral leader. He also served as the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers' musical assistant and accompanist, as well as for the renowned Shaw/Carnegie Hall Choral Workshops and the Robert Shaw Institute Summer Choral Festivals in France and the United States.
