The Britt Orchestra, a summer festival orchestra established in 1963, consists of 90 professional musicians from all over the country who travel to the Rogue Valley for three weeks of top-notch concerts at our outdoor venue in Jacksonville, Oregon.
Each season features five symphonic concerts with renowned international guests, a Symphony Pops show, and a Britt Orchestra Spectacular that showcases the virtuosity of our Orchestra, all conducted by Music Director Teddy Abrams.
The group's name, Steiger Butte, is derived from a vision quest location utilized by indigenous people west of Chiloquin. Since the 1950s, a family band called the Steiger Butte Drum has been touring the United States and the Pacific Northwest. Steiger Butte, who are now in their third generation of singers, consists of parents, grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunts, nephews, and nieces. According to Tupper, Steiger Butte is a pow wow drum in the northern style, and the trio has previously played at the Britt Festival and for the documentary "Crater Lake — Mirror of Heaven."
