Taj Mahal is an American blues musician who has been making music for over five decades. His career began in the late 1960s when he was part of a trio called The Rising Sons. Since then, he has released over 40 Taj Mahal musician albums, and won two Grammy Awards. He has collaborated with several renowned artists such as Keb’ Mo’, Eric Clapton, and Bonnie Raitt. Taj Mahal music combines elements of blues, folk, jazz, reggae, world music, and more to create a unique sound that has earned him critical acclaim throughout his career. Taj Mahal's debut album was 1968's Taj Mahal. This record was instrumental in establishing his reputation as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. It was followed by 1969's Giant Step/De Ole Folks at Home which included the hit single "Corinna." In 1971 he released The Real Thing which featured the singles "Six Days on the Road" and "Fishin' Blues." This album was certified Gold by the RIAA and won him his first Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Recording.
Throughout his career, the Taj Mahal has continued to experiment with different styles and sounds to keep his music fresh and exciting. In 1975 he released Music Keeps Me Together which features funk-influenced songs such as "She Caught The Katy" and "Queen Bee." In 1998 he released Señor Blues which won him another Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. He also released an album in collaboration with Keb' Mo', titled TajMo in 2017 which earned them both a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. In 2019 Taj Mahal announced that he would be going on tour in 2020 to celebrate 50 years since the release of his debut album Taj Mahal. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, Taj Mahal tour had to be postponed until further notice but fans can still look forward to seeing him live again soon!
