The artists who are making the biggest waves today are very different from those who were popular 10 or even 20 years ago. That's why I've put together a list of my top 10 rap artists today. Whether you're just getting into rap music or you're a seasoned fan, I think you'll find something to enjoy on this list. So without further ado, let's get started!

1. Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is one of the most popular and acclaimed rappers today. He first burst onto the scene with his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, which was released in 2012 and has achieved massive critical and cultural success. He signed an independent record label for Top Dawg Entertainment in 2005. Since then, he has released more albums including - To Pimp a Butterfly, DAMN, and Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers - which have all been widely praised by critics and fans alike. Kendrick's unique style and lyrical prowess have made him one of the most respected rappers in the game today. 

2. J. Cole

J. Cole is another hugely popular rapper who has been making waves in the industry for several years now. He first gained attention with his debut mixtape, The Come Up, which was released in 2007. Cole has not only won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song, but also a Billboard Music Award for Top Rap Album, three Soul Train Music Awards, and 8 BET Hip Hop Awards. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - Cole World: The Sideline Story, Born Sinner, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, 4 Your Eyez Only, KOD, and The Off-Season - which have all been well-received by fans and critics. J. Cole is known for his introspective and personal lyrics, which have resonated with a lot of people.

3. Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper is an up-and-coming rapper who has been making a lot of noise in the industry over the past few years. He first gained attention with his breakout mixtape, Acid Rap, which was released in 2013. This is one of his fans’ most favorite albums. Since then, he has released more mixtapes - 10 Day and Coloring Book - which have both been very successful. Chance's unique style and positive message have made him one of the most popular rappers today.

4. Drake

Drake is one of the biggest names in rap music today. He first gained attention with his debut album, Thank Me Later, which was released in 2010. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - Take Care, Nothing Was the Same, If You're Reading This It's Too Late, Views, Scorpion, and Certified Lover Boy - which have all been very successful. Drake is known for his catchy hooks and melodies, which have helped him become one of the biggest rappers in the world. He is also set to go on a worldwide tour.

5. Kanye West

Kanye West is one of the most controversial and polarizing figures in rap music today. He first gained attention with his debut album, The College Dropout, which was released in 2004. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - Late Registration, Graduation, 808s & Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Yeezus, The Life of Pablo, Ye, Jesus is King, and Donda - which have all been very successful. Kanye is known for his egotistical and often outrageous persona, which has both endeared him to fans and caused him to be despised by many.

6. Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne is one of the most successful and acclaimed rappers of all time. The songs of Lil Wayne gained attention especially during his breakout album, Tha Carter III, which was released in 2008. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - I Am Not a Human Being, Tha Carter IV, I Can't Feel My Face, Free Weezy Album, I Am Not A Human Being II, Tha Carter V, and Funeral - which have all been very successful. Lil Wayne is known for his inventive rhyme schemes and lyrical prowess, which have helped him become one of the greatest rappers of all time.

7. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is one of the biggest names in rap music today. She first gained attention with her debut album, Pink Friday, which was released in 2010. Since then, she has gone on to release more studio albums - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, The Pinkprint, and Queen - which have both been very successful. Nicki is known for her unique style and outrageous persona, which have helped her become one of the biggest rappers in the world.

8. Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg is one of the most successful and iconic rappers of all time. He first gained attention with his debut album, Doggystyle, which was released in 1993. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - including such classics as Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told, No Limit Top Dogg, and R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta). One of the albums of Snoop which has been very successful is The Masterpiece. Snoop is known for his laid-back delivery and often humorous lyrics, which have helped him become one of the most popular rappers in the world.

9. Jay-Z

Jay-Z is one of the most successful and acclaimed rappers of all time. He first gained attention with his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, which was released in 1996. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - including such classics as The Blueprint, The Black Album, The Blueprint 2: The Gift and The Curse, American Gangster, The Blueprint 3, Magna Carta… Holy Grail, and 4:44 - which have all been very successful. Jay-Z is known for his clever lyrics and business acumen, which have helped him become one of the most successful rappers in the world.

10. Eminem

Eminem is one of the most successful and acclaimed rappers of all time. He first gained attention with his debut album, The Slim Shady LP, which was released in 1999. Since then, he has gone on to release more studio albums - including such classics as The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Encore, Relapse, Recovery, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Revival, Kamikaze, and Music to be Murdered By - which have all been very successful.
