  • Situated in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and affectionately known to the locals as just "Blossom," this outdoor amphitheatre is an immensely popular spot for entertainment-seekers. The summer residence of The Cleveland Orchestra, Blossom Festival is naturally the site for their annual celebration. The Blossom Music Center is proudly owned and managed by the Musical Arts Association, which also serves as its parent organization. The Blossom Music Center is an homage to the legacies of Dudley S. Blossom Sr., and his son Dudley Jr. Mr. Blossom's commitment to the Musical Arts Association was illustrated through his tenure as president from 1936-1938, and continued by Elizabeth (Mr.Blossom’s widow) and Emily (his daughter-in-law) after he passed away in 1961. The Blossom Music Center capacity can accommodate 6,051 and is built with durable slate and steel to ensure its structural integrity. In addition, the venue is jam-packed with an array of summer entertainment from renowned musical acts and symphonic shows. Blossom stands apart from other modern amphitheaters due to its breathtaking parabolic setting, imposing slanted slate roof and verdant wooded landscape. Szell's performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony headlined the Blossom Festival Concert on July 19th, 1968 and was broadcasted to viewers around the world via WKYC-TV3. This momentous occasion marked the inauguration of The Blossom Festival! On the night of the 9th, soprano Phyllis Curtin, mezzo Jane Hobson, tenor Ernst Haefliger and bass Thomas Paul were performing solo. The next year, the Orchestra welcomed Meredith Wilson -- renowned composer of The Music Man-- as they hosted their debut Fourth of July concert at Blossom. In 2003, Blossom received an investment of $17 million to upgrade the venue in areas such as sound system, stage design, customer service, parking lots and exterior landscaping. In 2011, the Musical Arts Association sought to both bolster their financial standing and safeguard Blossom's natural environment by selling 580 acres of undeveloped land on the grounds to the National Park Service. Blossom is renowned for its music festivals, especially those in the genres of folk, rock, and country. An incredible 24,364 people attended the legendary Blood, Sweat and Tears concert at Blossom Music Center in 1969 - a record for an event there since it opened just one year prior! An approximate thirty-two thousand fans were supposedly at the 1973 Pink Floyd show, according to an unofficial count. From Lollapalooza to Vans Warped Tour, the amphitheater has served as a memorable venue for countless music festivals. Ozzfest and Mayhem Festival are amongst its proudest hosts that have entertained tens of thousands of attendees throughout the years. On August 25th-26th and 30th-31st of 1982, the Michael Stanley Band graced Northeast Ohio in four sold out shows; their success setting a record attendance for that time at 74,404 fans! It's no wonder why this band gained such high notoriety within our region--they were truly ahead of their time. In 1979, James Taylor made history as the first artist to perform two back-to-back shows at the amphitheater, gathering a total of 42,000 attendees! It was an unforgettable event that has yet to be matched. Some of the upcoming events and games at the venue are Louis Tomlinson, Matchbox Twenty, Weezer, Eric Church, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Shania Twain, The Cleveland Orchestra: Beethovens Ode to Joy, The Cleveland Orchestra: Salute To America, Blossom Music Center Cleveland Orchestra: Jurassic Park in Concert, Yellowcard, Big Time Rush, and more.
