  • Wrigley Field is a world-famous baseball stadium located on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. Chicago is proud to be home to the beloved Chicago Cubs, one of two MLB teams in the city. Weeghman Park debuted in 1914, serving as the home for Charles Weeghman's Chicago Whales of the Federal League. Unfortunately, this beloved team dissolved after 1915 despite countless efforts to keep them alive. The Wrigley Field seating capacity is 41,649. On April 20th, 1916, the Cubs proudly celebrated their inaugural home game at Wrigley Field and succeeded in a remarkable 7-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds after 11 innings of play. In 1921, William Wrigley Jr. of the renowned Wrigley Company purchased the Cubs baseball team. From 1920 until 1926, it was known as Cubs Park. However, in 1927 the name changed to Wrigley Field - which has stayed ever since! Wrigley Field is an iconic baseball stadium located on the North Side of Chicago. The stadium is known for its ivy-covered brick outfield wall, the unusual wind patterns off Lake Michigan, the red marquee over the main entrance, and the hand-turned scoreboard. Wrigley Field is also unique in that it is located in a primarily residential neighborhood with no parking lots and views from the rooftops behind the outfield. In 1988, Wrigley Field became the last Major League park to have lights installed for night games. During the years 1921-1970, legendary Chicago Bears called this place home as they reigned supreme in the National Football League. Additionally, between 1931 and 1938, it served as a residence for another NFL team - The Chicago Cardinals (now known as Arizona Cardinals). At 600 feet (180 m) above sea level, the playing field of this area is at an impressive elevation. Built following the iconic jewel box ballpark design that was all the rage during the early 1900s, Wrigley Field has become a treasured symbol of America's pastime. The two dips, or "wells", located on both sides of the field give those areas more distance than if the wall had continued along its center trajectory. The ballpark is renowned for its ivy-clad outfield walls, garnering national attention. During the opening weeks of the baseball season, only the vines may be seen as they creep across Wrigley Field's walls—the ivy has yet to transform them into a lush green. Since 1937, when the bleachers underwent a renovation, the distances from home plate to all areas of the outfield have remained essentially unchanged. Markers had once been made of wooden numbers cut from plywood, painted white, and strategically placed where ivy was prohibited to sprout. For the 1938 World Series, baseball fans flocked to rooftop stands as they were allowed entry for a fee. From there, many of them chose to sit in lawn chairs with their snacks and drinks! At this location, spectators get to attend a variety of sporting events such as Baseball, Football, Soccer, and Hockey. World-renowned artists such as Jimmy Buffett, The Police, Elton John, Billy Joel, Rascal Flatts, Dave Matthews Band, Paul McCartney, and Brad Paisley are just a few of the incredible performers to grace the stage at this venue. Other notable acts like Pearl Jam, Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, James Taylor, Lady Gaga, and Fall Out Boy have also been featured in spectacular shows! Some of the upcoming events at the venue are Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers at Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners at Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs, Dead & Company, Morgan Wallen, Pink, and more.
